013 - Birthing a New Tune

Following a brief intro covering some high level political stuff and a quick look into the idea of The Renaissance Man (more on that in future), I dive into Bitwig and begin making a tune interactively on the stream.

It's definitely a whole different game doing it live instead of solo, there isn't the same level of focus, however I will work on this some more, and then come back to it in a future stream when it is more developed.

007 - Bitwig and Brain Fog

I was super tired and foggy brained during this stream (full story explained at the start of the video), but the intention was to have an introductory exploration of Bitwig, and hopefully managed to achieve that on some level.

To be honest though I barely scratched the surface of what this awesome software has to offer.

Nevertheless, I will be back, well rested, with more Bitwig streams in future! :)

006 - The Integral Model and Music of the Spheres

Here we look at the Integral Model of philosopher Ken Wilber, some wise words from Terrence McKenna, and we explore some 600 year old Alchemical art on the vibrational nature of the Luminaries, and how they affect human consciousness.

A 14th Century Representation of Mercury, ruler of the intellect (Mercurius > More Curious)

In the 2nd part we dive into Ableton, look at some creative ways to use a Grand Piano patch, some probabilistic sequencing with Melodic Steps, and finally a desperate attempt to get…

Audio Alchemy - A Deeper Dive

A long long time ago, on a volcano far away ... there were a series of life changing events called the Audio Alchemy Retreats.

This was a collaborative project between myself and Andy Freeland aka Opulence, a DJ and events promoter based on the Big Island of Hawaii at the time.

Andy reached out to me in 2013, following the release of the Wanderlust EP, and we began having regular Skype calls, supporting each other in business and creativity, loosely based on the idea of a "mastermind group".

I had long…

002 - Alchemy & Generative Jazz

Kicks off with a few minutes of generative jazz "live performance" .... nice.

Then I get into some alchemical art, spirit science, what it means to be an alchemist, and look at some esoteric concepts and how they relate to music.

Second part I dive into the generative Jazz template, talk through how it was made, attempt to make a generative bass (and fail), then answer some questions.

001 - Novelty Generation with Melodic Steps

In this first live stream, we look at using S&H LFO's and uneven loop lengths to add life, variation and unpredictability into sounds.

I use Ableton's Operator and 'Melodic Steps' MIDI device, combined with the mappable LFO device, as well taking a brief excursion into XLN's XO plugin for building drum loops.

My laptop was reaching it's limits during this stream, so I kept it brief, but a new computer is on it's way - supercharged mac mini with 3.2Ghz 6-core i7 and 32GB of RAM.

Future streams will be…
